In 2013 and 2014, we estimated for the Minister for Energy and Water Supply the impact of carbon tax and renewable energy targets costs on a typical household electricity bill.

Impact of the carbon tax and RET 2014–15

In May 2014, the Minister for Energy and Water Supply directed us to provide an estimate of the impact of carbon tax and renewable energy targets costs on a typical household in 2014–15.

The information is used by retailers who are required by the Electricity Act to include a message on customer bills showing these costs for a typical household.

We provided our advice to the Minister on 29 May 2014. An excerpt of the advice and the Minister’s direction are below.

Impact of the carbon tax and RET 2013–14

In April 2013, the Minister for Energy and Water Supply directed us to calculate the impact residential electricity bills of the carbon tax and the renewable energy target.

The information is used by retailers who are required by the Electricity Act to include a message on customer bills showing these costs for an average Queensland residential consumer.

We provided our advice to the Minister on 30 May 2013.
